About the department
Fire & Rescue covers structure fires, vehicle fires, extrication, hazardous materials, and the full range of medical calls. Every scene involves coordination with law enforcement, which makes this the most collaborative department in the community.
The department runs two parallel tracks. You can advance on the fire side through the company ranks, or on the EMS side as a Paramedic — so you can specialize in patient care without ever commanding an engine.
What you will do
- Fire suppression and structure fire operations
- Vehicle extrication and technical rescue
- Emergency medical response and on-scene patient care
- Patient care reports and fire incident reports in the CAD
- Requesting additional units and mutual aid as scenes escalate
What is expected of you
- Follow incident command structure without exception
- Scene safety before patient care; crew safety before both
- Document every patient contact accurately
- Train regularly on medical and fireground procedure
- Communicate clearly with law enforcement on shared scenes
Divisions
Specialist assignments held alongside your rank — a Sergeant in a division is still a Sergeant. Divisions open applications periodically and usually require a minimum rank and a clean record.
Certifications
Qualifications that authorize specific duties. You earn these through training, and they gate what you are permitted to do on scene.
