About the department
Fire & EMS covers structure fires, vehicle fires, extrication, and the full range of medical calls. Every scene involves coordination with law enforcement, which makes this the most collaborative department in the community.
Members can serve on the fire side, the EMS side, or cross-train in both. Paramedics and EMTs run patient care independently of the fire ranks, so you can specialize in medical work without commanding an engine.
What you will do
- Fire suppression and structure fire operations
- Vehicle extrication and technical rescue
- Emergency medical response and on-scene patient care
- Patient care reports and fire incident reports in the CAD
- Requesting additional units and mutual aid as scenes escalate
What is expected of you
- Follow incident command structure without exception
- Keep scenes safe — for the public, for PD, and for your crew
- Document every patient contact accurately
- Train regularly on medical and fireground procedure
- Communicate clearly with law enforcement on shared scenes
